Economically Weaker Section(EWS) Reservation

Purpose:- To provide 10% reservation for the Gen-EWS in higher education and government jobs.
Why In News
Recently, The Question raised by the Supreme Court of India about the criteria for identifying the' Economically Weaker Sections' for the purpose of granting reservation.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment appointed a three member committee to revisit the criteria for 10% reservation for EWS in educational institutions and Government jobs, after a rap from the Supreme Court.

EWS Reservation Criteria
- Annual Family Income less than 8 lakh
- Family Agriculture Land not more than 5 acres
- Residential flat area should be below 1000sq ft. etc..
