
The Constitution of India is Neither rigid nor flexible but a synthesis of both.
- Rigid Constitution:- The special procedure are required for its amendments.
- Flexible Constitution:- The constitution can be amended easily.
Article 368:- Part XX of the constitution Deals with the powers of Parliament to amend the constitution and its procedure.
Procedure for amendment:-


- An amendment of the constitution can be initiated only by the introduction of a bill in either house of parliament.
- The bill can be introduced either by a minister or by a private member and does not require prior permission of the president.
- The bill must be passed in each house by a special majority.
- Each house must pass the bill separately.
- In case of a tie in voting presiding officer of a house can cast his/her Vote(Casting Vote).
- The President must give assent to the bill. He can neither withhold his assent to the bill nor return the bill for reconsideration of the parliament.
The Constitution can be amended in three ways:-
- Amendment by simple majority of the parliament.
- Amendment by special majority of the parliament.
- Amendment by special majority of the parliament and the ratification of half of the state legislature.
