RAMSAR CONSERVATION TREATY



The convention on wetlands of international importance, the Ramsar convention is an international agreement promoting the conservation and wise use of wetlands. it is the only global treaty to focus on a single ecosystem.

TREATY SINGED ON- 3 FEBRURY 1971 and come into force 1975.

  • The ramsar sites are one of the major protected areas in the world.
  •  In 1974, the world's first Ramsar site was identified (Cobourg Peninsula; Australia).
