MISSION POSHAN 2.0



The Poshan Abhiyaan is the Indian government's flagship Programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

LAUNCHED IN - 8 MARCH 2018

LAUNCHED BY- Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.

IMPLEMENTING AGENCY- Ministry of women and child development, government of India.

TARGET

  • Reduce stunting - 2% annually
  • Reduce undernutrition - 2% annually
  • Reduce anemia - 3% annually
  • Reduce low birth weight - 2% annually
  • The target of the mission is to bring down stunting among children in the age group 0-6 years from 38.4% to 25% by 2022.
  • The mission is a multi-ministerial initiative and aims at removing malnutrition from country by 2022.
THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON INDIA'S NUTRITIONAL CHALLENGE
  • Council has been setup under the Poshan abhiyaan.
  • The vice chairman of NITI Aayog as its chairman.
  • The NCN offers policy directions to address nutritional challenges and review programmes for the same.
MISSION POSHAN 2.0 

Launched by finance minister in February 2021 to prevent any further backsliding of nutrition indicators.

IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON MULNUTRITION
  • Covid-19 is pushing millions into poverty.
  • reducing incomes of many more and disproportionately affecting the economically disadvantaged.
  • Lockdowns disrupted essential services- such as supplementary feeding under anganwadi centres, mid day meals etc.
