NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY ACT,2013



PURPOSE- The objective to provide for food and nutritional security in human life cycle approach.

ENACTED IN - 10 September 2013 by Manmohan singh.

COVERAGE- The rural population and urban population received subsidized food grain under TPDS( Target Public Distribution System) was:-
  • RURAL POPULATION- 75%
  • URBAN POPULATION- 50%
  • OVERALL POPULATION- 67%
PROVISION:
  • 5 kg of food grains per person per month at rs. 3/2/1 per kg:-
    • RICE -  3rs per kg
    • WHEAT- 2rs per kg
    • MILLET- 1rs per kg
  • pregnant women and lactating(the process of producing breast milk) mothers will be entitled to receive meals during pregnancy and six months after child birth.
  • the children in the age group of given below will be entitled to receive meals:-
    • 6 Months TO 6 Years - receive free meals from the local anganwadis.
    • 6 years to 14 years - receive free meals from the government-aided schools.
  • provision for food security allowance to entitled beneficiaries.
  • the existing antyodaya anna yojana(AAY) household will continue to receive 35 kg of food grains per household per month.
NUMBER OF NENEFICIARIES AT PRESENT:
  • Under antyodaya anna yojana:- 
    • Households- 2.37 crore as in feb 2021.
    • Persons- 9.01 crore as in feb 2021.
NITI AAYOG RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • The national rural and urban coverage ratio be reduced from the existing 75-50 to 60-40.
  • If the reduction happens, the number of beneficiaries under the NFSA will drop to 71.62 crores.
